Bears win district title in win over Lakeshore
Bears turn the table on Lancers to win rematch

(St. Joseph) –  When St. Joseph and Lakeshore last met three weeks ago, Lakeshore's Eric Lemon found all the weapons in the Lancers arsenal.  During the rematch Lemon completed his first pass of the game but then failed on his next 16 attempts as St. Joe's defense pressured the Lakeshore signal caller all night long in a 19-16 St. Joseph win.

The Lancers did get on the board first and it only took one play after a St. Joe turnover as Lakeshore's Adam Miller took a pitch from Lemon and ran down the sideline for an 88 yard score as Lakeshore took the lead 7-0.

The Bears got on the board late in the first quarter as Josh Akins connected on a 31 yard field goal to make the score 7-3.

The Bears got another Akins field goal in the second quarter from 41 yards out to cut the Lancers lead to 7-6.

Lakeshore would get a field goal of their own in the second quarter, much to the dismay of the St. Joe sidelines as the attempt looked to be wide to the left.  The Lancers had a 10-6 lead going into halftime.

After a scoreless third quarter.  St. Joe would take their first lead of the game in the fourth quarter as Jamaal Jackson scored from 4-yards out to put the Bears up 12-10 as Akins point after was low and hit off the crossbar.

Lakeshore regained the lead on their next drive as Zane Metz took another pitch from Eric Lemon on a 4th and 2 and scored on a 28 yard run.  Lakeshore failed on a 2 point conversion attempt to make the score 16-12.

The Bears would take the lead for good on their next drive, after a 59 yard run by Jamaal Jackson the Bears scored on a 4th and 12 at the Lakeshore 14 as Sean Guinane threw a screen pass to Tyler Curtis and rumbled into the endzone to give the Bears the lead once again at 19-16 after Akins' point after.

The game was still in doubt as the Lancers still had 2:54 left on the clock, but the Lancers offense was stalled on their final two drives by penalties, sacks, a fumble, and one interception.

The Bears ran out the clock to claim their 2nd district title in 3 years.

St. Joe now advances to the MHSAA Division 3 Regional Finals as the Bears hit the road for a game at top ranked East Grand Rapids Saturday at 1:00.
