Taking a look around the Big 16 Conference.

St. Joseph will be not play Battle Creek Central this season
The Bearcats were 5-5 in 2008, not bad for a team that unexpectedly lost their longtime head coach before the season started.  Doug Bess served as an assistant coach for 21 years under Al Slamer.  The Bearcats were counting on big things from running back Larry Caper, who committed to Michigan State University.  The Bearcats didn't have many problems on offense, but the Bearcat defense gave up 35 points or more in 4 of their 10 games, including a 67-35 loss to St. Joe and a 59-58 3OT loss to Kalamazoo Central the next week.  The Bearcats had 308 points for, but 309 points against which was the second most in the league.
